House; Karuta belongs in Thor’s House. She cares more about physical strength so she can protect herself and others, rather than worrying worrying about how strong her mind is. Her demon transformation in her world is a giant skeleton that is incredibly strong, and even without her transformation she is a skilled fighter able to take a lot of damage. She doesn’t really prefer to use her power other than to help people though, and she would only ever get angry if someone was to hurt her friends.
Power; Strength

Personality; One things that matters most to Karuta is food. While she prefers sweets, anything edible is sacred to her. If there’s food near her, it is eventually going to end up in her mouth, even if it’s just cooking flour. While the rest of her class may think she’s just strange for tasting everything, it’s really because she takes cooking so seriously. She tests the ingredients before adding them into her cooking, to make sure adjust the recipe based on the minute differences she taste in the ingredients. When discussing reincarnation, Karuta talks about how she wants to be different kinds of foods in her next life, so she fill someone’s stomach and make them happy.

The other thing Karuta values most is her friendships. Ever since meeting Banri Watanuki as a child, she has cherished their relationship. Though she doesn’t know how to express it, she is obviously in love with her friend. Her other important friendship is with the newest inhabitant of the Maison de Ayakashi, Ririchiyo Shirakiin. She would do anything for her and Watanuki, going so far as to jump out of a third story window to save them, and pleading with them to kill her so she can’t be controlled to hurt them. She seems to always be thinking of them instead of herself, offering food to them whenever they seem troubled.

She’s airheaded and spacey, almost never able to pay attention for more than a few minutes in class. She’ll listen as long as she can, then find herself roasting seaweed with a bunsen burner, or homehow holding a dog at her desk. Sometimes she just wanders off then returns after classes have started without explanation to anyone. Even though everyone in class thinks she’s weird, it doesn’t bother her, since her best friends Ririchiyo and Watanuki like her as she is. Even though she doesn’t pay attention in class other subjects, cooking is her favorite, seeing how she dragged Chiyo-chan to class so they wouldn’t be late. She’s no better when it comes to homework, as she prefers to rely on rolling a pencil with all different types of possible answers to choose an answer, even answering a History question with “3” when it comes up.

Karuta speaks what’s on her mind pretty openly when asked, but otherwise prefers to stay quiet. She’s very easy going, willing to accept what others say with very little second thought, as when she tells Ririchiyo that she knows she is a good person due to her six sense, which Ririchiyo says is impossible, so Karuta then decides it must have been her fifth sense. When she talks her voice is quiet and monotone, sometimes betraying the strong feelings she has when she’s upset or happy. She’s also not afraid of physicality, giving hugs to her friends and holding hands when they are together.

As a child, Karuta accidentally transformed into her demon form, a giant Skeleton, in front of her friends. The were so scared of her that they never came back, causing Karuta to decide to shut her feelings far away, so she couldn’t get hurt like that ever again. Because of that incident she has had trouble opening up to normal humans, and instead has become friends solely with those other people the mansion who are half-demon like her. Even though she doesn’t remember making that decision, Watanuki does, and that’s all that matters to her, that he cares enough about her to remember the things she can’t.

...I don’t think I’m in the right place. I’m supposed to meet Watanuki before we go to school, if I’m late he might get scared to walk to school alone. It’s important that I find him, I don’t want him to be alone.

But I found food, someone serving meat on a stick from a cart. I didn’t have any money, but he let me have some anyway. ...I think he might be the nicest man I’ve ever met. I want to find some money so I can repay him, but I don’t know where to get any. ...Maybe I should get a job?

I could open up my own cart...but I don’t have any money for that either. Then I’ll get a part-time job at that man’s cart and save up enough to buy my own. Then I’ll be able to open my own business and pay back that man for his kindness.

...I wonder what else they have to eat here.

“...I’m going to make Curry,” Karuta announced to no one in particular. She was quiet and monotone in her speech, showing no real emotion as she prepared to cook. The other students looked on as she washed and cleaned the different vegetables she was using, being sure to scrub them vigorously.

“First, you need to cut the vegetables that you want to use.” She grabbed a large knife and chopped away at the vegetables in a flash, without her even looking. “You should use fresh vegetables, or else you will end up with a bland sauce, and the curry will taste bad.”

She stopped suddenly to place a cut piece of carrot in her mouth, savoring it for a moment before biting into it with a crunch. Karuta care very much about the food she ate and prepared, unable to settle for food that was made improperly. All she cared about when it came to food was that it made her and the people who ate it happy, and if the food was not prepared perfectly, then it might make someone unhappy. That was a terrible outcome in her mind.

The girl continued to take a piece of every ingredient in her arsenal and taste them on at a time, even going so far as to write down illegible notes on a piece of paper. She took a bite of the onion, and stopped, looking as if there was something incredibly wrong, her eyes glossing over in a mix of fear and pain. Before anyone could ask her what the matter was she quickly scribbled something down, and threw away the onion.

It had tasted off, and Karuta knew it would ruin her entire dish if she were to use it. She knew where she could get a new onion that would complement her dish, but the only place was a block away from the school, and she couldn’t just leave Home Ec in the middle of the period could she? Well, that’s what a normal person might have been thinking, but Karuta had a one-track mind. When she realized she needed a new onion, she had already started walking to the door. It would only take a few minutes to get to the store, and her cut vegetables were in a stock pot, so they would be fine.

Her classmates and teacher tried to ask her what was wrong, but it was too late, she had already jumped out the first floor window and started running across the field to the store.

Just as the bell rang to end the period, Karuta’s head popped in the window, and she climbed inside, holding two full grocery bags, and an oversized lollipop in her mouth. She had been unable to decide what to buy, and had bought almost everything she saw that she liked. And so, as the rest of the students got their things and left to go home, she went back to her station to cook, her mind set on making a perfect Curry that her friends would enjoy.
